Celebrities Who Advocate the Use of Marijuana

CELEBRITIES AND MARIJUANA

Smoking marijuana today isn’t as frowned upon like it was back in the 60’s, 70’s 80’s and 90’s, in fact it is easy to spot celebrity tokers in the media and some even like to brag about it.
One of the clearest examples of a proponent of smoking marijuana is now known as Snoop Lion but many will know him simply as Snoop Dogg. His obvious daily use of what he refers to as a ‘sacred herb’ could well be linked to his recent conversion to being a Rastafarian. More likely however is that he just enjoys being high on that ‘real sticky icky’.

Snoop isn’t the only celebrity who delights in bragging about his smoking habits.  Jay-Z, Puff Daddy, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Rhianna and even Miley Cyrus have all been either spotted smoking the herb or have supported its use when questioned in interviews with journalists.

The 80’s pop star George Michael has been caught in his vehicle whilst under the influence of marijuana.  Smoking while under the influence of this herb is still illegal and is not condoned, however George had taken a little too much on this occasion and was found asleep at the wheel – fortunately parked up.
In an interview with the Rolling Stone magazine, former Friends star Jennifer Aniston admitted that she saw nothing wrong with smoking marijuana and said she enjoys using cannabis.

It seems like most everybody has at least tried it these days, from the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama who admitting to smoking it in his college days to members of the British cabinet who, when questioned a few years ago surrounding the debate of legalization, admitted to trying marijuana when they were younger and didn’t really see any issues with its recreational use.
Another notable celebrity who is active in his fight for the legalization of marijuana is none other than Hollywood’s funnyman Woody Harrelson. Woody loves a blunt and also supports the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. The pain relieving properties of this ancient herb often come with less dangerous side effects to prescription pharmaceuticals and often have a greater efficacy rate when it comes to things like pain management.
It is becoming plain to see why so many celebrities are blatant in their admissions of using this miracle plant.
Aging country singer Willie Nelson has been fighting for the legalization of marijuana for most of his life, and many times has found himself in prison; arrested for possession of this herb. Other celebrities that have also been locked up for possession of this little plants include airhead, I mean hotel empire heiress Paris Hilton, Louis Armstrong. John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Bill Murray, David Bowie, Lil Kim, Woody Harrelson, Snoop, Whitney Houston, Macaulay Culkin, Haley Joel Osment, Amy Winehouse and of course the legendary Bob Marley.
You can’t really talk about marijuana without mentioning Bob Marley, he is seen as one of the godfathers of the legalization movements, even singing songs about the herb and it’s tolerated growth for religious purposes in the government yard, in trench town. Despite the fact this plant grows wild like weeds in Jamaica.

Other iconic performers such as Jimi Hendrix, who was seen smoking cannabis live on stage at the Woodstock festival, have also spoken out about the recreational and artistic uses for cannabis.
It has been widely reported that the smoking of cannabis also influenced many of the songs written by the Beatles. Both John Lennon and George Harrison have been in trouble with the law for possession of the drug, whilst many have also theorized that the lyrics of some of their songs have hidden messages to people who enjoyed not only marijuana but also other drugs recreationally. Joe cocker whom also performed at Woodstock sang a song simply titled “Let’s Go Get Stoned” … need we say any more.
Given that this substance is used so widely and in many cases against the laws of the countries concerned, democracy dictates that something should be done to make this dirty little habit less of a taboo subject. Celebrities often help by lending media attention and airtime to the legalize campaign; however there are still plenty of other artists who have written songs about the pleasure they derive from this drug.
The punk band Green Day, had hits such as Basket Case and American idiots, name to their band after an activity where a person simply smokes marijuana all day long with one’s friends. This is known as a Green Day.  Cypress Hill is another example of a band that highlighted the need to discuss the plight of illegal marijuana as early as the 1990s. Their song Dr. Green Thumb is a representation of the struggles growing cannabis illegally in the United States.
The list of celebrities who have smoked weed is potentially endless, and it seems to be the case that around the world this illegal activity is enjoyed safely and recreationally by millions of people daily.

Whether you agree with legalization or not, it is difficult to argue that people who smoke weed cannot achieve great things as we can see from all these celebrities who use marijuana. And if it’s financial wealth you are talking about there is always virgin brand pioneer Richard Branson who is and open advocates for the legalization of cannabis in the United Kingdom. He’s not doing too badly for himself now, considering he is a ‘pothead’.
